Anice Jee is a Moscow-born, New York-based visual artist whose
multidisciplinary practice spans photography, painting, video art, tattoo,
installation, and writing. Refusing to be confined to a single medium, she
creates conceptually layered works that explore absurdity, identity, and the
digital transformation of human experience.
Her art walks the line between the provocative and the poetic, captivating
viewers with bold visual composition while inviting them to decode hidden
meanings and symbolic riddles. Guided by the motto “Let’s give meaning to
absurdity again,” Anice engages playfully and critically with the world around
her, often using herself as a subject in video and performance works to reflect
on presence, perception, and vulnerability. She believes that beauty and story
can be found anywhere — one simply needs to shift the perspective. Her
creative practice is deeply rooted in experimentation, often combining
traditional techniques with conceptual and digital approaches to challenge and
expand the boundaries of contemporary art.
Anice studied Journalism and Photography at Moscow State University and
earned a master’s degree in Video Production from Hyderabad Central
University in India — an experience that shaped her cross-cultural and
sociological outlook. After working in Russian mass media, she transitioned
into independent documentary and experimental art in response to state -
controlled narratives. In 2015, she moved to New York and continued her work
as an artist, educator, and freelance videographer.
Her work has been exhibited in solo and group shows across the U.S., and her
video art has been screened at international festivals, earning several awards.
Across all forms, Anice’s practice is driven by curiosity and a sharp awareness
of contemporary culture’s evolving mediums and messages.
